Ukraine is undoubtedly in the spotlight at the ongoing Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Last year, the Ukrainian stand was symbolically empty; now, visitors to the event can enjoy a moving exhibition of Ukrainian illustrators.
The exhibition "Ukraine Illustrated" presents a selection of works by Ukrainian artists who present a portrait of their homeland after a year of war - a country devastated by war and full of pain, but also strong, still proud, and united as never before.
The exhibition is organised by the Kiev International Book Arsenal Festival and the Pictoric Illustrators Club, which, since the criminal Russian invasion on 24 February 2022, has been collecting posters by illustrators and graphic designers showing what is happening in Ukraine, as well as their personal stories, anti-war messages, and appeals for help for their country.
The stand of the Ukrainian Book Institute was located this year not far from the Polish stand.
It is worth recalling that on Monday, the prestigious Premio BOP - Bologna Prize for the Best Children's Publisher of the Year was awarded to the Lviv-based Old Lion Publishing House.
